When I first started to work from home, years ago, I thought that everything would stay the same. The only difference: a new environment. What I found though is that when we work from home, there’s more self-discipline required.
Apart from that, sitting a lot became sitting too much.
Here’s the thing: sitting is not bad. It’s actually a common posture for human beings when we work, socialize, study or travel. But from sitting a few hours a day to 15 hours or more … this is a completely different story.
The most common downsides of sitting too much are lower metabolism, lower energy levels, the tendency to put on weight or finding it hard to manage your weight, blood circulation problems, and the list continues.
For this reason, I decided to share a series of tips with you to stay healthy while working from home. I’ve dedicated my work to finding the easiest ways of managing our weight and health while working from home.
To move more when we are mostly indoors requires a shift in perspective. Seeing/creating opportunities to move more. Understanding that energy is created through movement.
When we move, the blood circulates properly and delivers oxygen to our cells. Making the body and the mind more agile.
Here’s how to move away from sitting too much:
✅ use a standing desk and alternate between standing and sitting
✅set a reminder to get up and move for 1-2 minutes every 25 minutes
✅ keep coffee, tea, and other things you might need in other rooms so that you have to get up and get them
✅ walk every time you’re on the phone, stretch, walk on the spot, move your hands
Standing, switching between sitting and standing, fidgeting – all these activities burn calories and keep your body in motion. Creating more energy.
