Morning person or not, a productive habit will always help you achieve more. Imagine that you have been oversleeping for the past few years. You feel like you don’t deserve anything, although you want more. Or maybe you lack the energy to go after what you dream about or your passions. You wake up to a similar day to yesterday and the day before that and perhaps tomorrow. How about I help you change that? One step at a time.
The first step to be more productive and pursue your dreams is to change your state immediately after you wake up.
You can accomplish this by performing morning actions in the morning or by investing in a long-term strategy. The morning actions are meditation, exercise, positive thinking, mimicking excitement, shifting your attitude. The long-term strategy works with actions you perform every day that help improve your morning routine: cultivating positive thoughts, using meditation before sleep, changing your eating pattern, picking up a new sleep routine. We’ll talk about the Morning Actions for More Productivity. Then, you’ll get to pick the one that resonates with you the most.
Maybe you’ve been told to change your lifestyle or change your habits and you’ll be more productive. How many of us actually know what that means? How do you change your lifestyle? What are the best ways to adopt healthier habits? How can you decide which habit to adopt?
Every time you are faced with an overwhelming decision, statement or advice, you need to break it down into smaller parts. If you don’t want to do that, I am here to guide you and do that for you. Productivity is a general word. Let’s think of productivity as more energy to pursue your dreams or work on what you are passionate about. With that said, it’s possible to become more productive by simply performing at least one of the following morning actions. Imagine what you can achieve if you do them all…
The first time I discovered meditation, I began using it multiple times a day.
There is something magical about the infinite power meditation bestows upon the user.
By the way, meditation can be whatever you want it to be. The feelings you feel, the worlds you visit, the sensations and the sceneries are all in your control. You get to experience them and personalize them to your liking.
I sometimes use meditation in the morning especially to boost my inspiration and creativity. If you begin to use meditation as soon as you wake up, you will experience the following benefits:
Meditation allows you to sense for a moment or more that everything is possible. More importantly, through morning meditation you get the drive to work hard for what you want. It won’t even seem like it’s first thing in the morning and you haven’t had your coffee yet.
Light exercise or a simple walk/jog bring more oxygen to every cell in your body. Morning exercise helps your body release chemicals that make you feel energized the entire day. Feelings of pleasure and happiness follow.
I know you might be skeptical right now and there’s no point trying to convince you. However, you should be the one convincing yourself. Exercise in the morning for at least 7 days and reap the benefits.
No more caffeine boost when you have a body weight training sip.
More like empowering thinking. Positive thinking can also be viewed as a long-term strategy to be more productive. But you can easily use this action in the morning. Let’s say you barely slept and need to go to work. You are in no mood. To top it all, it’s raining cats and dogs. What do you do? Can you call in sick? Do you have extra hours that you can use? Or you suddenly remember you can’t skip work? Is that important evaluation or meeting today?
Stop those thoughts. There’s nothing wrong with having thoughts. But pointless thoughts that may end up wasting your time or hurting you? No way.
The mind is there to be controlled. It wants you to control it. Then, your mind will work alongside you and for you instead of against you.
How do you tap into positive thinking? You start by being totally honest with yourself without stressing over everything that comes to mind. Observe how you feel and then allow yourself to come up with a solution. How long do you have to stay at work? You realize it’s not that long. You’ve done this before and if not, it’s kind of exciting being at work in a different state. Consider this as a challenge.
Make it more interesting and say that you actually love this day. Why not enjoy the rain? It’s not like you have no clothes to wear to work. And even if you don’t have a car, when was the last time you enjoyed a refreshing walk in the rain?
If you can’t force your mind to come up with positive thoughts, then use your body. Did you know that smiling actually triggers happy hormone production? Happy hormones are, in fact, neurotransmitters that make you feel good: dopamine, endorphins, serotonin. Smile first, then get excited about a brand new day.
Stand up straight, with confidence. If you want to feel powerful and energized, learn to use the associated gestures and postures. Once you control your body, you can control the way you feel. I guess it goes both ways. Remember you are in control.
Mimic excitement and you’ll soon flood your existence with productive actions.
Shifting your Attitude
Why not become a morning person? What prevents you from actually loving to wake up early in the morning or feeling energized? Try telling everybody, including yourself, that mornings really help you be more productive. Soon, you will start feeling that what you are saying is actually true.
I know mornings are not for everyone. But they do give you the illusion you have more free time. Fuel your attitude with that. Choose to wake up early in your pursuit for more free time to do what you love.
Look at things from a different perspective. Imagine you are already successful and you have achieved your dreams. Do you really believe that when you are passionate about something, you fall asleep once you fulfill your dreams? Passion attracts more passion and more drive to achieve a new big dream. If you feel like you don’t have a passion, read this 2-Step Strategy to Free Your Mind.
Pick the action you’d like to do tomorrow morning. Perform that action every morning immediately after waking up for at least 7 days. If you enjoy it, extend it to the next 7 days. Slowly, that action becomes part of your morning routine and transforms into a habit.
If you want to choose another action, you can either continue with the first one and add the second or just perform one of the two. Do only what you believe suits you best. So, will you start with meditation, exercise, positive thoughts, a smile or a shift in attitude?
