Once you know what to do, you make the decision to put your knowledge to practice. What happens is we’re usually sticking to the plan for a while but then stop. The reasons for the diminishing motivation are varied and not that important. The thing is that most times, we want to be consistent with all the changes all at once. That ends up being overwhelming.
We start thinking that our life is always going to be a struggle. So, we don’t want to change just yet. We choose to have another day, another one, and so on. Until we prepare ourselves for change.
The key to successfully implement something that requires an accommodation period is first to understand that it’s just that – a transition period. It’s not always going to be as hard.
Then, you want to make sure that you measure results in various ways. This will help you to keep going. It can be something as simple as how you feel 🙂 Focus on the benefits, on what you get out of it.
As part of measuring results, it helps to start with one thing so you know that you can do it. Doing this will also help with consistency. It’s like getting stronger when we do push-ups (I have no idea why I am using the push-ups example since I can only probably do one). We improve… well, we master things over time. They become automatic.
One thing that I would also do is make sure I am creating the space and time to get that thing done. One thing that I am being consistent with is sending emails to my list. It’s something that I did in the past for about 2-3 weeks and then stopped. Now, I have created a routine. I can’t wait to send an email to my list. But I do have 1-2 emails already written just in case. Although, I prefer to write in the moment and share what has happened in the meantime.
Use your mind to motivate yourself to keep going and stay consistent. Here’s a video on how to enjoy the things you are doing. This will help you understand the power of your thoughts and how you can control them.
These steps are not separate from each other, just like your life is continuous. It does not start over when you make a different choice but you grow and you learn more about yourself. See life as a self-discovery journey and you’ll never get bored of implementing things.
