Have you ever wondered how some people walk 10000 or more steps a day? They never seem to complain about this. Plus, most of these people look fit and healthy. Would you like to learn how to walk more without feeling like it takes you the entire day to achieve it?
Let’s just go straight to it. These insights are brought to you by my experience doing a 10000 steps 5-day challenge.
Walk while on the phone.
Do you spend hours talking to people over the phone? You will be amazed at how many steps you can do in only 30 minutes of walking while talking. These are not the only benefits. As you walk, you will notice you are more engaged in the conversation, you have more energy and more awesome words to say.
Walk while you learn.
Why do you think headphones were invented? Put on your favorite online course and get learning. Not only will you stay active, your brain will make more connections and you’ll learn faster.
Walk on the spot while you wait.
Sometimes we have to wait for a car, someone or something. Why not put this time to use? Walk while you discover new patterns on the road. See how people react, either to your walking or the ignore vibes they are trying to send off. Waiting doesn’t have to be static. Move your arms and your feet. Time will also seem to pass quicker.
Walk while you play on the phone.
One can click in motion, right? The truth is you’ll feel awkward doing this at first. Because we’re used to doing things a certain way. We sit on a chair or on the bed to play. But you’ll soon realize that the fun of playing the game is the same if not more intense due to the active walking you’re doing.
Walk while you read.
This is not for everybody. I couldn’t focus on the reading the first time I did this. But with time, I started to enjoy it. I guess it depends on what you’re reading too.
For all you people-pleasers (including myself), whenever someone needs, wants or asks for something, be the first to jump up and deliver. You might not always feel like it but honestly if it were up to us we would never be up to it. Though, if you do this, you will become more likeable and you’ll get some steps in. Think about it or don’t and just try it out.
Invite people for a walk instead of a restaurant or an office talk. You get more than one benefit:
- you move more
- you get fresh air
- you enjoy sunlight (vitamin D)
- you can use the environment to spark conversations
- you get seen as an outgoing and likeable person
Walking is not a one-way street. When you walk, you are not wasting time. You can achieve so much more. And the best part is that you’ll soon find this activity turning into a habit.
