To search or not to search… to diet or not to diet… to lose or not to lose…
There are so many weight loss diets nowadays. A simple search on the internet and you can find one just for you. A weight loss diet for which you have all the ingredients you need.
What most fad diets, if not all, fail to do is help you go through the process of losing weight. Yes, it’s a process and it doesn’t mean focusing solely on meal plans. You need something else. Speaking of which, there’s this one tip that might be considered the most important weight loss strategy.
To lose weight, you need to shift your focus toward something else.
Confusion be gone
Many times, your inner and outer worlds are too hasty. There’s no time to sit back and relax. You could miss out on the next post, video, absent moment, shallow encounter and so on. You get the idea. I too find myself starting to run when I should be slowing down. You probably want to lose weight and you’re serious about it.
What keeps you from actually achieving your goal? The constant search. You’re never happy with a weight loss diet. They all sound perfect on paper but none do the work for you. There’s no magic involved. You’re not having fun. And you want to have fun, so desperately. You don’t want to feel like you’re wasting your time eating less or eating clean. You believe processed food is fun cause it tastes great.
All these thoughts… and no action. Your thoughts seem to paralyze you. There’s no room for getting things done when your inner world is a perpetual spinning top.
Pause now for just a moment. Take a deep breath. Your breath is not sucked in the vortex of your mind (except for when you’re anxious, afraid, in panic mode). But now you are calm. In this moment, where stillness surrounds your body, catch that tiny moment of calm. There. There it is. A still moment.
All you have to do is remember and recreate this single moment. Confusion will dissipate. That’s all you have to do. The rest will follow in that moment of stillness.
Portal to passion
Existence must be pleasurable. We may not know that much about the afterlife or our purpose here on Earth. One thing we agree upon (or so it seems): life should be fun, enjoyable, passionate. Since we are all different, we like various things, activities, and people. Sometimes we get bored, other times we continue searching. This constant search I’ve been talking about appears to be present in every aspect of life. While this search will never stop, it can definitely become secondary to our actions.
When you want to lose weight, you need to fill up your time with something other than food or thoughts about food. You can do that only by finding something you are passionate about. Sure, hanging out with friends that keep you accountable is great. But if you truly want to succeed and manage your weight permanently, you need to stop obsessing. Instead, start doing something else. Shift your perspective. It’s obvious what you were doing so far was not working out for you.
It takes time to find a passion. When you find it, this does not mean you’re done. Passion has long been compared to a flame. Fires damp down. Then, you find another one. Or look at things differently.
Passion is what you are willing to do without getting paid while being in a flow & free state.
You can use the power of questions to help you find what you’re passionate about:
- If you were able to write 500 books on a topic, what would that topic be?
- Imagine you are financially independent (you don’t have to worry about money anymore), what would you do for the rest of existence?
I’m guessing you’re on a different path now and the sun is shining a bit brighter. It’s time to act on what you’ve learned.
2-Step Strategy to Free Your Mind
- The first step was to focus on your breath. A calm mind does not think about food.
- The second step was to find and practice something you are passionate about. When you do what you love, you do not stop to eat and you will probably want to take more care of your body. This way, you get to experience more of what you love.
That’s right! You only need 2 steps to free your mind from the confusion trap. This strategy allows you to stop wasting time. More time, more energy, more determination, more fun. These all get you closer to your weight loss goal. Or any other goal really.
You can learn anything from anyone & anywhere.
